Parent Advocacy

You are your child’s biggest advocate. If you don’t advocate for your child, no one else will. As an exceptional needs teacher and program coordinator of 23 years, I have a diverse set of experiences and knowledge on how public schools function as a system within RtI and special education in Wisconsin. I am not a lawyer and cannot give you legal advice, however, I can support you in your journey to help you advocate for your child’s needs in the educational setting.

Parent Advocacy services can come in many forms. I can:

  • help you read through reports / progress notes for interventions they are receiving
  • help you decide if a special education referral is necessary and what to do if it is
  • direct advocacy and representation at your child’s evaluation and/or IEP meeting
  • help you understand terms and lingo used by educational professionals
  • help you understand your rights and responsibilities as a parent of a child with a disability
  • Evaluation review and explanation
  • IEP review
  • IEP development
  • 504 plan development
  • help you monitor progress and provision of services
  • connect you with resources to support you and your child
